Description - Circa 1880/90 Late Victorian period, Beautifully handcrafted solid 9ct yellow gold, Garnet set Double Albert Chain Necklace.
A truly exceptional antique piece.
The chain is 56cm in length with groups of handcrafted intertwined links alternating with six 33mm long garnet set links, plus one garnet set link which drops to the T Bar which is also set on the ends with two cabochon cut almandine garnets.
The ends of the chain have been extended with matching plain jump chain and have two matching swivel clasps , which both have the remnants of impressed 9ct gold hallmarks.
The garnet set links are each set with two 6.5mm round, four 6.5mm x 5.5mm oval and four 3.5mm round Rhodalite / almandine garnets, which are set back to back giving a total of fourteen 6.5mm round, twenty eight 6.5mm x 5.5mm oval and twenty eight 3.5mm round garnets.
The solid 9ct T bar also has early impressed marks for 9ct gold.
This beautiful antique necklace is a substantial piece weighing 56.21 grams, a great length at 56cm.
The dog clips / swivel clasps work as they should, the necklace is in overall very good antique condition.
This is quite a rare Late Victorian Necklace, it has been very well made, by a highly skilled craftsman.
The garnets look absolutely superb with the rich hue of the early antique gold.
