Description - A Wonderful Piece of Jewellery History By The Renowned English Jeweller Charles Horner.
The verso of the pendant has crisp assay marks for Chester 1911 & Makers Mark .
These beautiful Art Nouveau Enamelled Pendants Have become Highly collectable, & also carrying the Chester assay office marks, makes this a very special piece, as the Chester Assay office closed in the early 1960's so jewellery & silver registered there has become very desirable for the collector.
Charles Horner began his career in the 1850's & he later purchased a retailing & watch making business at 23 Northgate Halifax.
In 1884 Charles Horner patented his " Dorcas " Thimble, previously thimbles had been made from soft silver, but he sandwiched strong steel layers & silver together to create these new thimbles.
Charles had six sons, two of which came into the business Henry Horner & James Dobson Horner, they produced beautiful silver & ornaments among their better known lines were the gorgeous enamelled pendants & necklaces, twisted silver wire and paste knot brooches & hat pins.
This is a gorgeous example of an enamelled sterling silver Art Nouveau Drop Style Pendant.
The chain is a fixed one in sterling silver which is 46cm in length with a drop pendant which the overall length is 5cm & 30mm at the widest point.
The drop pendant has an oval raised piece with lovely cobalt blue, green & pink enamelling, the silver section has a highly beaten effect with a raised flower & foliage.
The smaller, top & bottom drops have finely enamelled detail to which is just lovely.
The enamelling is in fantastic condition, we have cleaned & polished the chain & drop so it has bought it back to life so it looks wonderful.
These Art Nouveau Pendants are really beautiful treasures, full of old world romance & feminine charm.
