Description - A wonderful genuine Art Nouveau Pendant & Chain by Charles Horner of Halifax.
This piece was assayed in Chester in 1910, Chester Assay office closed in the early 1960's so pieces assayed there have become highly collectable.
Charles Horner opened his first jewellery retail business in the 1860's in Halifax, his company was well renowned for producing a wide range of beautiful jewellery & silver objects including the " Dorcas" Thimble, but they were particularly recognised for their Art Nouveau Enamelled pendants.
After Charles's death in 1896 his two sons took over the family business Charles Henry Horner & James, highly skilled silversmiths who were able to transform the cold metal into organic forms, lovely natural shapes with sinus lines which epitomises the Arts & Craft Art Nouveau period.
This pendant is so gorgeous, crafted in sterling silver it is 5cm in length from top of bale to the bottom drop, featuring vibrant enamelled details in a stunning blue & deep green. At the base of the pendant are four lovely flowers in plain sterling silver, finished off with a drop that has been enamelled also.
The enamelling is in fabulous condition after all these years, the design of this pendant is a particular favourite of mine, it really is a wonderful example of true Art nouveau Design.
The back of the pendant has clear hallmarks & the maker's mark C.H - Charles Horner.
The pendant is on a 925 sterling silver Chain, which is 46cm in length, marked to the clasp for 925 silver.
A Highly collectable Art Nouveau treasure, that could be worn with a variety of outfits.
This is a wonderful piece to add to any antique jewellery collection or maybe start one with.
